Learning objective: After reading this article, learners will be able to describe potential paradigm shifts in the management of chronic graft-versus-host disease.

During the 8th International Chronic Graft-versus-Host Disease Symposium, the GvHD Hub held a live symposium on May 22, 2026, titled Evolving treatment strategies in SR‑cGvHD: Optimizing patient selection across current and emerging therapies.

Symposium | Panel discussion: Shifting the treatment paradigm in cGvHD

The symposium closed with a panel discussion that included questions from the audience. The panelists, Zinaida Perić, Daniel Wolff, and Corey Cutler, shared their perspectives on several key topics, including:

  • Applying insights from the treatment of other fibrotic diseases (e.g., myelofibrosis) to chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGvHD), including whether inflammation and fibrosis can be managed using similar therapeutic approaches.
  • The role of combination therapy in cGvHD, including the importance of balancing efficacy and toxicity, and when to add versus switch therapies based on treatment response.
  • Approaches to treating specific manifestations of cGvHD, taking into account regulatory labeling and patient- and treatment-related factors.
  • Strategies for managing late-onset, rapidly progressing sclerotic cGvHD that is refractory to corticosteroids.
