Graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) is a severe complication of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation associated with high non-relapse mortality. In GvHD, donor immune cells (the graft) attack the host's own tissues. This condition is more frequent among patients who received transplant from unrelated donors compared with related donors.
